Within the Addigy platform, you can deploy and manage specific Office application updates for your macOS devices.
This tool is located within Policies > (your policy) > Updates > MS Office Updates.
Update Settings
Before deploying any updates, it's important that you review and customize the update settings to fit your organization's update cadence.
To view the list of available settings, click on the Settings button on the right-hand side of the page.
We currently have the following settings available for customization:
- Disable automatic updates
- This will disable the auto-update setting in Microsoft's AutoUpdate tool (MAU). This is a good choice if you prefer keeping Office apps on known stable versions over brand-new versions.
- Ignore update if application is in use
- If the app that is trying to be updated is currently open, it will ask the user to update the application (if the setting is disabled).
- This prompt can be customized within a Self Service configuration.
- This will prompt the user for each app that needs to be updated. For example, if the user is using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word at the same time, they will receive 3 different prompts to update each unique app.
- The policy deployment will wait for this prompt to be accepted. This means that if the user does not hit Accept, the remaining policy deployment will be held up.
- If this setting is enabled, it will force-quit the app, if open, and perform the update.
- If the app that is trying to be updated is currently open, it will ask the user to update the application (if the setting is disabled).
- Allow 2016 applications to upgrade to 2019
- If a device is using Office 2016 apps and you deploy updates for Office 2019 apps, it will upgrade the apps to Office 2019
- Restrict update schedule
Deploying Updates
To deploy the app updates to devices assigned to the policy, find the version you would like to deploy and assign it to the policy.
Note: If you would like to sort by the latest available versions, click on the Date filter. Additionally, you can sort only by needed updates using the Needed updates only slider.
Once your updates have been added for deployment, they will automatically deploy upon the next automatic policy deployment. Alternatively, you can manually start the policy deployment by clicking Deploy Now.
You can view the status of the updates within the Deployment Status window.
