Impacted Devices
- End User’s devices on macOS 15+ devices
- Devices using Splashtop integration
Issue Overview
In macOS 15, Apple is introducing a change that causes vendors using the legacy screen capture kit functionality to infinitely prompt when screen sharing. Anything requiring persistent screen share using this legacy mode will prompt the end user every single time they try to share their screen even with Screen Recording Privacy Preferences privileges approved.
Workaround
At the time of writing, the current workaround is to have the end user on macOS 15+ to click on “Continue to Allow”. This would be required for every remote session or screen share session.
As an alternative you can utilize Live Desktop as these additional prompts should not be needed for that solution.
Future Resolution
The Addigy team has engaged with Splashtop and are working on a resolution. The Splashtop team has a planned resolution set in place to change their binaries to utilize Apple's ScreenCaptureKit to resolve this issue. Splashtop is targeting their v3.7.2.0 release (end of Q3 2024) to support ScreenCaptureKit on the newer OS; however, this is also dependent on any potential beta changes of Apple’s macOS Sequoia (macOS 15) and/or any unforeseen changes to Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit framework.
We will continue to work with Splashtop and Apple’s Developer’s community to resolution and will update this KB with more information as it presents itself.
If you see this on other applications, please contact the respective vendor to notify them of this deprecation.
