Prebuilt Apps are the easiest and most efficient way to manage macOS application lifecycles through Addigy, with an easy-to-search catalog of the most popular applications and a set-it-and-forget-it style of deployment. You can deploy exact versions of an application or configure auto-updates. Prebuilt Apps include all the MDM profiles required by each software title for a silent, remote installation and give granular management of deployment schedules — all at the click of a button.
Software titles that are created and maintained by Addigy are packaged via an automated process that runs at various times each day. Additionally, those packages are verified prior to being made available in the Prebuilt Apps Catalog.
Expectations
- Package, verify and update a software title within seven (7) days of the update being publicly available.
- For browsers and any other software that pushes out a zero-day fix, Addigy reserves the right to pull all previous versions of that title and only support the latest version.
- Some software manufacturers release their latest updates in "phases" (for example, Adobe CC). Addigy cannot attain these phased releases and must wait for the general public installer before making it available in the Prebuilt Apps Catalog.
Tips and Tricks
Helper Tools
We provide the MDM profiles for Prebuilt Apps - these include PPPC and System Extension profiles where relevant. We do not, however, push any MDM profiles to handle helper tools. We highly recommend looking into each application and determining whether you would like to suppress the helper tools via a separate MDM profile, or allow end users to interact with helper tools to keep their software up to date.
The following knowledge base article explains how to suppress the helper tool popup for Slack.
Parallels Desktop
We highly recommend that only one version of Parallels Desktop (19 or 20) is included in a policy for Prebuilt Apps - The condition script is not looking at the version installed, just the name of the application in the applications folder. Because of this - if you have Parallels 19 installed, it could be overwritten by Parallels 20 (which is a different software), which may break the license.
Patching Microsoft Apps
The individual Microsoft apps are included in the Prebuilt Apps Catalog. The installers that we are deploying via Prebuilt Apps are standalone installers - they may not include all the patches for the versions because Microsoft may not release those patch updates for their standalone installers.
Requesting Apps
To request applications to be added to Prebuilt Apps, reach out to your account team. This is best accomplished by going to Help Center > Product Feedback. It will then go to our team for review. We can only support apps that do not require license keys in installation scripts and that have publicly available installer files. Putting in feedback does not guarantee we will add the application to our catalog. Please provide a link to the download file for an application in your feedback to speed up your request.
Deployment Schedules
Prebuilt Apps can have deployment windows configured and may be useful if there is a scheduled time or day of the week updates may need to go out. However, if there is a deployment window enabled - Prebuilt App deployments will not run outside of that window. This includes initial installation if machines are onboarded outside the deployment window. End users will also not be prompted to perform an update outside of the deployment window.
Downgrading Applications
Prebuilt Apps will not uninstall applications when an app is removed from a policy. The most efficient way to remotely remove an application from a macOS device is with a script - please reference the application's uninstall instructions to remove an app. Prebuilt Apps will also never downgrade an application if a newer app than what is assigned on the policy is installed on the device.
Known Issues
- Missing PPPC Profiles: We intend to provide the PPPC profiles for every application, but we are still hard at work providing them. As new application updates are released, the corresponding PPPC profiles will be added.
