Addigy collects device facts such as Device Name and Free Disk Percentage from your enrolled devices so you have an accurate picture of your fleet. When a collected value isn't the one you want to see in Addigy, you can override it with a more meaningful value without changing anything on the device itself. This article explains how to override a device fact, how to spot overridden values, and what an override does and does not affect.
Overview
An override replaces the value Addigy displays for a single device fact on a single device. The device keeps reporting its own value, and Addigy shows yours instead.
- What it does: Lets you set your own value for any device fact shown in the Devices page table.
- Who it's for: Administrators who want more recognizable or more useful values in the Devices table than the raw values collected from the device.
- Key benefit: You get a fleet view that matches how your team actually refers to devices, without touching the devices themselves.
What an Override Changes
- An override changes the value Addigy shows for that fact on that device in the Devices page table.
- An override does not change anything on the device itself. The device is not renamed, reconfigured, or otherwise modified.
Note: Overriding the Device Name fact changes only what Addigy displays. If you need to change the name on the device itself, see How To Change A Device's Name via Addigy.
How to Override a Device Fact
- Navigate to Devices.
- Locate the device you want to update, then click the > control on its row to open Device Actions.
- Click Overridden Facts to open the Overridden Facts window.
- Find the fact you want to change and enter your value.
- Save your changes.
How to Identify an Overridden Fact
Overridden values are marked so you can tell them apart from values collected by the device. In the Devices table, an overridden fact appears with an asterisk.
How to Change an Override You Set Previously
Overrides are not one-time changes. Return to the Overridden Facts window on the same device at any time to manage the values you've set.
- Navigate to Devices and open Device Actions for the device.
- Click Overridden Facts.
- Update the value for the fact you want to change.
- Save your changes.
When Your Changes Appear
Saved overrides don't appear in the Devices table instantly. They're reflected after the device reports its next audit.
- Audits happen automatically, and the update may take a couple of minutes to appear.
- For a device that's offline, the change is reflected after the device comes back online.
