Apple introduced macOS, iOS and iPadOS 26 to the world at their 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference. There are many new features and upgrades for both consumers and administrators managing Apple devices. Previously, one of the biggest pain points for admins managing Apple devices was migration from one Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution to another, especially for iOS and iPadOS devices. Apple has solved this with OS 26. Admins are now able to reassign devices in Apple Business to a different MDM solution and set a deadline for when a device must migrate. Additionally, apps and associated data can be preserved on iPhone and iPad that migrate. In this guide, you will learn how to leverage these new features of Apple Business and OS 26 to make migrating devices into Addigy easier than ever.
Requirements
Before continuing, confirm that you have the following accounts and tasks completed.
- User in Apple Business with either Administrator or Device Enrollment Manager
- Prepare your Addigy environment with your Policies, an enrollment profile and any configuration profiles, software titles or scripts that your devices need
- Automated Device Enrollment configured in Addigy with the “Await Device Configured” option enabled
- If you are using volume purchased apps, configure the Apple Apps token in Addigy with enough licenses to cover the device needs (for free apps, paid apps will need to be reassigned to the new token once devices are migrated)
- Devices are running iOS, iPadOS or macOS 26
- If the device was added to Apple Business with Apple Configurator, it must be after the 30 day provisional period
- Export all device information from your old MDM server, such as FileVault recovery keys
Apple Business
Sign in to Apple Business with the correct credentials and select Devices > Inventory. Select the device(s) you want to migrate. Note that you can use filters to more easily find eligible devices.
If you selected an individual device, click the ellipses menu and click Assign Device Management. If you have multiple devices selected, click the Assign button for the Assign Device Management setting.
Next, select the MDM server you want to migrate devices to, click Add Deadline, and set the deadline date and time. Click Continue, read the prompt and click Confirm.
Once a deadline is set, a note will be added to the device. If you need to change the deadline, you can.
End User Experience
The user will receive a notification to enroll and they will be shown the deadline. If ignored, users will receive the notification daily until 24 hours before the deadline, at which point notifications will be hourly. For the last hour, users will receive a notification at 60, 30, 10 and 1 minute intervals. Tapping the Enroll button will restart the device and it will enroll in Addigy.

If the device loses internet connection during unenrollment from the previous MDM, the user will be prompted to reconnect to WiFi. Users will be guided through the migration step-by-step. If a user ignores the notifications and does not migrate before the deadline, they will receive a non-dismissable migration notification and be guided through the process.
End Result
Once migrated, devices will show in Addigy and be fully manageable with MDM.
Apple’s new migration features introduced in macOS, iOS and iPadOS make migrating devices into Addigy easier than ever. With planning and correct preparation, you can make the migration process easy for you and for your users.
