Addigy's LiveTerminal creates tunneled SSH sessions directly to your devices. This article covers general steps for troubleshooting LiveTerminal issues. For how LiveTerminal works under the hood, see Overview: LiveTerminal.
How to Reinstall LiveTerminal
A reinstall resolves many LiveTerminal issues, and is referenced throughout this article. To reinstall, run each command below independently on the device, waiting about 2–3 minutes between each so it has time to complete:
/Library/Addigy/go-agent policier install install-ssh
/Library/Addigy/ssh -install
Missing LiveTerminal Icon
1. Confirm the Integration Is Properly Enabled
Check Account > Integrations in Addigy and verify LiveTerminal is enabled.
Also confirm the affected device's policy has LiveTerminal enabled at the policy level, under Policies > (your policy) > Integrations & Settings > Remote Control.
Per the sub-text under the enable/disable slider and the policy inheritance article: if the target device is in a child policy, enable LiveTerminal in the parent policies as well.
2. Verify the Agent Is Communicating
If the icon is missing on a newly enrolled device, the agent install may have hit an issue. See FAQ: Troubleshooting Agent Connection Issues (macOS) to check the agent.
3. Reinstall LiveTerminal
See How to Reinstall LiveTerminal above.
General Connection Issues
1. Confirm Addigy Isn't Being Blocked
An immediate failure when establishing the connection usually means LiveTerminal is being blocked. If the connection hangs before failing, the device is more likely failing to complete the request instead. Either way, confirm Addigy's ports are whitelisted in any software that can interfere with network traffic — see Complete Port Usage for Addigy.
2. Connections Hanging
If connecting via LiveTerminal just hangs and eventually fails, the device likely isn't receiving the request.
- Verify the agent is communicating (see the "Missing LiveTerminal Icon" section above).
- If the agent is communicating and you can run general commands on the device, try reinstalling LiveTerminal.
- If neither resolves it, try restoring the hosts file below.
3. Restore the /etc/hosts File
A connection failure can sometimes be caused by a bad hosts file, though this isn't the issue in every case — try the steps above first.
Caution: The script below overwrites
/etc/hostsentirely with Apple's default contents. Back up the existing hosts file on the affected device first, in case any custom entries need to be restored afterward.
#!/bin/bash echo "## # Host Database # # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry. ## 127.0.0.1 localhost 255.255.255.255 broadcasthost ::1 localhost" /etc/hosts
