When a new version of a Smart Software item is available, you can update your policies and Self Service configurations directly from the Policies page — no need to manually swap items one by one.
How to Update Software in Policies
- Navigate to the main Policies page.
- Check the software update button in the top area of the page:

If updates are available, the button will appear yellow and read Software updates available...

If no updates are available, the button will be greyed out and read No software updates available.

Click Software updates available... to open the Update Software modal. This displays all Smart Software and Self Service items that have a newer version available in your Catalog.
- Click the title of the item you want to update.
- Select the version you want to update to from the Update to dropdown.
- Select the policies or Self Service configurations you want to apply the update to. Only policies and Self Service configurations that currently have an older version of the item assigned will be available to select.

Click Update Software to apply your changes.
Devices assigned to the selected policies will receive the updated software during their next regular policy deployment.
Note: Updating a software item will remove the older version wherever it is assigned and replace it with the new version across all selected policies and Self Service configurations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why don't I see a policy listed when trying to update a software item?
Only policies and Self Service configurations that currently have an older version of the item assigned will appear as options. If a policy is already on the latest version, it will not be listed.
When will devices receive the updated software?
Devices receive updates during their next regular policy deployment cycle, which runs approximately every 30 minutes.
Can I update multiple software items at once?
The Update Software modal lets you work through each item individually. After updating one item, return to the modal to update additional items as needed.
