By default, the Device Name column in the table displays the device's Computer Name using:
scutil --get ComputerName
If you have set up a 'Device Name Changed' Monitoring Alert, the alert may be triggered for the following reasons:
- The end-user changed the device name themself.
- The device does not have a hostname or computer name set; the device name changed automatically or via a network utility.
This is more noticeable on ADE (Automated Device Enrollment) Enrolled devices or newer devices where the hostname or computer name may not be explicitly set.
