Policies are the core framework within the Addigy platform for managing deployments to groups of devices and can be created, moved, configured, deployed, and deleted.
Policies have a hierarchical inheritance, which means most items and settings added to Parent Policies will trickle down to the Child Policies. For more information on the Hierarchy of Policies, check out our KB on Understanding the Policy Hierarchy.

Policies Page
From the Policies page, you can:
- View your policy structure and how many devices are assigned to each
- Create new policies
- Update any third-party software across your entire policy structure.
- Deploy a policy's assets to all devices quickly
- View the results of the last deployment of any policy
Creating a New Policy
To begin creating a new Policy, click New Policy at the top of the Policies page.
After this, you will need to account for and fill out the relevant information of the policy:
- (Optional) To differentiate the Policy from others, set a Color and an Icon.
- Enter a Name for the Policy.
- If you would like for this to be a Child Policy, click Select Parent and select the Policy that this new Policy will be under.
- When complete, click the Continue button
Individual Policy View
The individual Policy view will help you manage various Policy assets, like Software and Profiles, as well as the Policy settings that help you control other device features like Addigy Identity, Self Service, and 3rd party integrations like Conditional Access.
Additionally, you can use the dropdown menu at the top to quickly jump to another policy.
The icons next to the dropdown will help show what remote control and integrated systems are enabled for the policy.
Overview Page
The Overview tab provides a quick glance at a Policy's device types and total counts, auto-assignment status, enrollment profile information, and more. Read more about auto-assignment and flex policies.
View Devices Assigned to the Policy
Quickly see all of the devices that are assigned to a policy. Read about assigning and un-assigning devices to a policy.
Assign Assets
Assigning one or several assets to a policy is an efficient way to deliver necessary items to a group of devices in one deployment. Assets include all of the items created via the Catalog, as well as the Home Screen Layout configuration.
Policy Settings
The Settings section includes settings for:
- MDM Enrollment Profile
- Apps & Books tokens
- Automated Device Enrollment Configuration
- Remote Control (LiveTerminal, LiveDesktop, and Splashtop)
- Addigy Identity
- Integrated Systems - this includes settings for ConnectWise Manage, Autotask, Intune, and more.

Adding and Removing Items From a Policy
Via Policies:
- Navigate to Policies > Your Policy
-
Select a tab where the item you'd like to add is located. In this article, we'll select Profiles:
By default, all items will be marked as Not in Policy. - If selected, the item can be added to or removed from the Policy by Clicking Add/Remove.
- A confirmation will appear. Select Confirm to confirm the change.
Additional Information
- If an item has been added to the Policy, it will show as In Policy.
- If an item was added to the Policy in a higher level Policy, it will show as In Parent.
Via Catalog:
- Navigate to the Catalog and choose a Catalog category, such as Smart Software, MDM Profiles, etc...
- Select the 3 dots under Actions and select Assignments...
- Choose the Policy(s) that you would like to deploy this item to.
How to Deploy a Policy
Our Policier process will automatically handle the deployment of items to devices every 30 minutes. Should you want to deploy the Policy manually, follow the below steps.
Triggering a Policy Deployment via
To deploy Policy assets and settings immediately, click the Deploy button in the policy view or select the option from the row in the policies page.
Policy Deployment Status
The Deployment Status pop-up shows pending, completed, or error information for each item deployed during the previous deployment. See what software, profiles, custom device facts, and other assets have been deployed in a clean and simple user interface.
You can view a policy's Deployment Status from two places:
- In the Policies list, click the "..." menu in the Actions column and click Deployment Status...
- From the policy's Overview tab, click the Deployment Status button.
Filtering
Once your policy deployment status is open, you’ll be able to see which catalog item deployments are erroring out immediately as they will have a number(amount of errors) circled in red next to the catalog item name. This allows you to easily identify where you may be having deployment issues.
Search
After you select a Catalog item on the left, you’ll be able to quickly search through the list of deployed items to find the specific deployment item you are looking for. Once you click on that item, you’ll also be able to search for the specific device as well.
Statuses
You’ll be able to drill down into the specific device and see what the output of the deployment is. This helps when remediating issues and debugging deployments that utilize complex scripts.
Expanding the details of any item displays the list of devices with the individual status at the moment. Clicking the device name will open the device's detail view.
A device will return one of the following statuses in policy deployment status,
-
Pending - This status occurs when the policy is attempting a new deployment to a device but has not been received by the device. All deployment starts with this status and eventually transitions to one of the other statuses.
-
Success - This means the item was successfully deployed and returned an exit code of 0
-
Failure - This means the item ran into an error while deploying and returned an exit code of 1. You can view the output here to help debug the issue
-
N/A - This means software items did not fail or succeed but may have run into a separate issue such as the deployment not being available for the OS which was being deployed too.
How To Delete a Policy
- Within a policy, navigate to the Overview tab and select the Delete button.
- A window will appear to confirm the policy deletion. Select OK to delete the policy.
Additional Information
The following warning message may appear when attempting to delete a policy that an Addigy user account is restricted to:
To remove the policy, please remove the policy restrictions for any user that was restricted to this policy. Further steps on resolving this issue can be found here: Unable to Delete Policy: "Please remove user restrictions..."
